What Moves Me

Welcome to the Rhythm For Life Blog called “What Moves Me.” As a movement educator, perinatal fitness trainer and mom of two, I have experienced, witnessed and learned many valuable life lessons that helped shape me – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Like it or not, these experiences have helped me to recognize my own individual rhythm and move my life forward.
I learned at a very early age that dance was my passion, however, and maybe because of conventional thinking, I didn’t embrace it fully until much later. Long before I began dancing and choreographing professionally, I became very interested in health and fitness. At the age of 18 I decided to stop eating meat. I consulted with a nutritionist on a regular basis, took an interest in making homemade recipes and was always on the lookout for exercise shows on TV, on top of working out to my collection of Jane Fonda, Denise Austin and Kathy Smith aerobics videos.
As I learned how to take care of my body I also became keenly aware of the environment. Recycling and using environmentally-friendly products became a necessity, then a lifestyle. Taking care of Mother Earth, our home, was just as important to me as taking care of myself. My family grew up tolerating my ways and, inspite of themselves, have taken on some of my now accepted good habits. This is as much a blessing as it is a curse as they are the first ones to point out when I fall off the path, which I do more often than I care to admit.
After dancing my way through two pregnancies I founded Maternal Dance; a dance class designed specifically for pregnant women. Working with and around women carrying new life, experiencing the growing and changing of mind, body and spirit during this very special and profound time, was crucial to learning about myself – by keeping my body healthy I keep my spirit healthy. As a movement educator I teach people of all ages using dance/yoga/pilates as a vehicle to learning more about who they are; they connect on the inside to be inspired to move and grow outwardly. And so…
My intention for this blog is to share what moves me, either in a direction that supports my growth or how a sidestep helps me to evaluate my movement and navigate my way back on the path to feeling my own rhythm and what makes me feel beautiful, balanced, healthy, sane, joyful and human. In sharing what moves me I hope to inspire you to notice what moves you in your growing and be motivated to share with me.
What moves you?
